WOW Beside the Sea

Sept 2012 014

I have started to make a quilt from a book by Lesley Brankin called ‘Beside the Sea’. It is mostly foundation piecing and is great fun to make. I am not making the single size quilt only a baby quilt so I am having to adjust the layout and number of blocks but that does make it more interesting.

So far I have completed the lighthouse, a sun and a few sea gulls.

Also I thought you may like to see my workroom, it doubles as the saloon of our sailing yacht, obviously it all gets packed away when we are out sailing but at the moment we are in our home marina so I have some time to sew.

WOW using up the scraps

I had more scraps left than I had thought, managed to make 4 place mats and a table runner, the table runner maybe a bit big but I wanted it to cover the centre of the table when the side leaves of the table are folded down, the sun has bleached the centre of the table and it is now a completely different colour than the side leaves. I embroidered the name of the boat onto the place mats, turned out better than I had expected.

WOW 003 WOW 004

The baby quilt has been posted and I forgot to take final photos before I took it to the post office, never mind may be the new parents will send me a couple once they receive it.

A small quilt for a new arrival ready for packing up and sending back to the UK.

I hope they like it, although it is blue and the new arrival is a girl, I think they will as father is a keen sailor.

I think I may have enough scraps left to make some place mats for the boat, excellent.
